Thursday, October 3rd 1-3:30 pm, Horizons Senior Center Focus Group: The Senior Center Survey results are in! Join Paula Land, the Horizons project lead, for an opportunity to hear the results and offer additional input through a focus group format. Together we can continue to envision a space that is welcoming, resourceful and meets the needs of seniors in Cedar Rapids.
Saturday October 5th , 9:00-11:00 am, Nature Outing to Indian Creek Nature Center-Bird Banding: Let’s join this special bird banding public program. Ornithologist Dr. Neil Bernstein for a special bird banding program at the back of Penningroth Barn (6665 Otis Rd). Our group will meet at 9:00am to watch Dr. Bernstein net, band, and release birds from Nature Center property. You’ll get an up-close look at the birds! Banding is a weather-dependent activity.
From 10am -11am while Dr. Bernstein is banding birds, Joan Schnabel, local raptor educator, will be bringing a couple of live, injured, raptors for people to learn about. Both programs are FREE with no registration required. In the case of inclement weather, this program will be canceled.
Monday, October 7th , 1-3:30 pm, Transportation Options for Older Adults: Transportation and parking are critical issues for many older adults, as these resources are essential to maintaining independence. This panel discussion will explore the various transportation options available to seniors in our community, addressing both fixed-route bus services and door-to-door transportation for
eligible seniors. Topics will include accommodations for individuals using wheelchairs, walkers, canes, and scooters.
Our panel of representatives from city bus services, Aging Services, Rider’s Club, Lifts, and To The Rescue, will share valuable information about the resources available.

His masterful guitar skills and soulful vocals will take us on a nostalgic journey through the golden eras of the 50s, 60s, and 70s, as well as beloved country Classics.
Prepare to tap your feet, sing along to familiar tunes, and bask in the warm nostalgia that only great music can evoke. Hopefully, you can join us for an afternoon of pure musical delight with Steve Anderson, where every chord strikes a chord in your heart.

Learn tips for protecting your privacy, finding and joining interest-based Facebook groups, and using Cedar Rapids 55 Plus to stay updated on upcoming programs or invite others to meet-up for an event. After the presentation, CJ will offer personalized, one-on-one support for any tech-related questions. Bring your phone, tablet, or other device for assistance!

Thursday October 17th 1-3:30 pm, Bingo: A social game of chance, bingo, is growing in popularity and is enjoyed by people of all ages. Besides being great recreation, playing bingo help older adults maintain hand-eye coordination, concentration, and short-term memory skills.
Monday, October 21st 1-3:30 pm, Line Dancing with Kathie Mosley: Line dancing is a great way for older adults to engage in healthy physical activity. It is a perfect exercise for improving coordination and balance, increasing cardiovascular health and brain memory. This dance fitness experience can be enjoyed by people of all movement abilities; newcomers welcomed anytime. Kathie Mosley will be leading us in this quirky and fun activity.
Thursday, October 24th 1-3:30 pm, Chair Yoga with Tammy Bayer: Join us at 1:00pm for Coffee & Chat followed by Chair Yoga at 2:30pm. Tammy will be leading a beginner level chair yoga class. She will adapt the class as needed to fit your needs and mobility levels. Chair yoga uses a chair for support with seated and (occasional) standing postures. This makes yoga accessible to those who are new to it, have various physical limitations, or find other yoga classes challenging. No experience necessary.
Monday, October 28 th 1-3:30 pm, Game Day: Join us to play Phase 10 (a rummy-like card game), Mexican Trains (a version of Dominos), or Scrabble. Someone who could help us learn the card game Hand-and-Foot may be joining us. Or bring a favorite game. These games can be played by anyone. There is enough room and tables to play 4 games.
Thursday, October 31st 1-3:30 pm, Movie Day at Horizons 819 5th St SE: Come and enjoy a movie
while munching on gourmet popcorn for your cinematic pleasure. The name of the selected movie will be posted on the Facebook Group “Cedar Rapids 55 Plus” and announced about a week prior to “Movie Day.” This offsite event will be held at Horizons, 819 5th St SE, ½ block off 8th Ave, not far from Mercy Hospital.
Friends at the Lodge, Tuesdays 1-3pm Thursday evenings 6-8pm. Jones Park Lodge, 2901 Fruitland Boulevard SW, Cedar Rapids. Join Barbara and Kristin at the Jones Park Lodge on Tuesday afternoons and Thursday evenings for Board Games and Friendship while munching on popcorn and drinking coffee or tea. Some weeks there will be a presentation followed by games. Tuesday, 10/22 will include a Nature Walk at 3:00pm.
