Thursday, May 2nd 1-3:30 pm, Bingo: A social game of chance, bingo, is growing in popularity and is enjoyed by people of all ages.  Besides being great recreation, playing bingo help older adults maintain hand-eye coordination, concentration, and short-term memory skills.

Monday, May 6th 1-3:30 pm, Growing Herbs and Vegetables by Master Gardener Phil Pfister:  Growing fresh herbs and vegetables is a most enjoyable activity that almost everyone can do, in almost any situation.  It doesn't have to be hard, and the health benefits are great in so many ways.  In this program, Linn County Master Gardener, Phil Pfister, will discuss various gardening styles (in-ground, raised beds, and containers), starting herbs and vegetable seeds, transplants, and growing on to harvest.  We will also touch on some of the more common insects and diseases encountered in the garden.

Thursday, May 9th 1-3:30 pm, Chair Yoga with Tammy Bayer: Join us at 1:00pm for Coffee & Chat followed by Chair Yoga at 2:30pm.  Tammy will be leading a beginner level chair yoga class. She will adapt the class as needed to fit your needs and mobility levels. Chair yoga uses a chair for support with seated and (occasional) standing postures. This makes yoga accessible to those who are new to it, have various physical limitations, or find other yoga classes challenging. No experience necessary.

Sunday May 12th 2pm, Nature Walk at Prairiewoods: Spring Wildflowers Meet us in the Prairiewoods parking lot, 120 Boyson Rd, Hiawatha for a nature walk to look for ephemeral spring wildflowers in the Prairiewoods woodland.  Bonus: Our path will be marked by a timeline of our universe beginning with the “Big Bang.” Come away with an appreciation of the evolution of our wondrous universe, our world, and the beginning of life.  The wood mulched path is easily walkable, being mostly flat, and the pace will be unhurried for an enjoyable way to get in “our steps” while out in nature.

Monday, May 13th 1-3:30 pm, Game Day.  Join us to play Phase 10 (a rummy-like card game), Mexican Trains (a version of Dominos), or Scrabble.  These games can be played by anyone.  Or bring a favorite game.  There is enough room and tables to play 3-5 games.

Thursday, May 16th 1-3:30 pm, Cooking for One or Two & Taste Testing:  This program for individuals and couples was suggested by members seeking inspiration for cooking in smaller portions and wanting to try new, healthy foods.  Come to share and discover delicious recipes, along with handy cooking tips and tricks, specifically curated for those preparing meals for one or two people.  This program will include Taste Testing healthy foods suggested by a Hy-Vee dietician.  Find the perfect blend of convenience and creativity for your intimate dining experience.
