Thursday, January 4th, 1:00-3:30 pm, Bingo. A social game of chance, bingo, is growing in

popularity and is enjoyed by people of all ages. Besides being great recreation, playing bingo

can help older adults maintain hand-eye coordination, concentration, and short-term memory

skills.


Monday, January 8th, 1:00-3:30 pm, TED Talk: What Does It Take to Change A Mind?

Ever tried to change a person’s mind when they weren’t really that convinced? Impossible,

right? This TED talk by Lucinda Beaman, a fact check editor at The Conversation, has seen first-

hand the conflict between facts and beliefs. She offers a framework for understanding how we

process information and how we can connect with those who disagree with us.


Thursday, January 11th, 1:00-3:30 pm, Rightsizing Your Home by Karen Knight.

The idea of decluttering and downsizing is overwhelming for many of us. Learn tips and tricks for dealing with "stuff" -- whether you're thinking of moving or just making your home more "right" for the life you want to live now.


Saturday, January 13th, 2:00-3:30 pm, Nature Outing to the Bird Room at Indian

Creek Nature Center. Let’s enjoy an afternoon of nature therapy watching birds flying free

to and from the feeders while we are caged warm and cozy in the bird room at Indian Creek’s

Amazing Space building.


Directions: Indian Creek’s Amazing Space is located in the prairie at 5300 Otis Road SE, Cedar

Rapids. From Mt Vernon Road, turn south onto 44th St SE. Go for 1.3 mi. Then turn left onto

Otis Rd SE. Go for 0.6 mile. The entrance driveway will be on your left; an old farm wagon

sits at the entrance. Carpooling: If you’d like to carpool, let us know at a meeting or call 319-

640-5357.

 

Inclement Weather: In the event of inclement weather, the nature outing will be rescheduled

for a subsequent Saturday. Information will be posted on the Facebook Group “Cedar Rapids

55 Plus” or you can call 319-640-5357.


Thursday, January 18th, 1:00-3:30 pm, Cooking for One or Two: Sharing tips and

recipes. This program for individuals and couples was suggested by members seeking

inspiration for cooking in smaller portions. Come to share and discover delicious recipes, along

with handy cooking tips and tricks, specifically curated for those preparing meals for one or two

people. Find the perfect blend of convenience and creativity for your intimate dining

experience.


Monday, January 22nd, 1:00-3:30 pm, Line Dancing with Kathie Mosley.

Line dancing is a great way for older adults to engage in healthy physical activity. It is a perfect

exercise for improving coordination and balance, increasing cardiovascular health and brain

memory. This dance fitness experience can be enjoyed by people of all movement abilities;

newcomers welcomed anytime. Kathie Mosley will be leading us in this quirky and fun activity.


Thursday, January 25th, 1:00-3:30 pm, Movie Day: Come and enjoy a movie while munching

on gourmet popcorn for your cinematic pleasure. The name of the selected movie will be

posted on the Facebook Group “Cedar Rapids 55 Plus” and announced about a week prior to

“Movie Day.”


Monday, January 29th, 1:00-3:30 pm, Game Day. Join us to play Phase 10, a rummy-like

card game, Mexican Trains, a modern version of Dominos, or Scrabble. These games can be

played by anyone. Or bring a favorite game. There is enough room and tables to play 3-5

games.
