Thursday August 3rd , 9-11:30 am, Clean Eating: Chances are you have heard about the
movement to consumer products as close to their natural form as possible. Laila Aossey and
Sandy Bruns will be preparing a ‘tasting meal’ discussing healthy eating with a Mediterranean.
Monday, August 7th , 1-3:30 pm, Lifelong Learning and Social Enrichment
Opportunities: Come learn about Coe Thursday Forum, a program for older adults who want
to expand their knowledge in an academic setting. Brie Swenson will be discussing the variety
of topics which Coe will offer during the 2023-2024 academic year. Opportunities through
other groups for Day Trips, Travel, Hometown Tourist, and other events will also be discussed.
Thursday August 10th , 9-11:30 am, Coffee & Chat with program by Emergency
Management.
Monday, August 14th , 1-3:30 pm, Tech Support @ 1pm, Book Club @ 2pm.
Meredith Crawford, Cedar Rapids Librarian, will discuss Online safety and using Facebook,
including our Facebook group page. She will stay to provide 1-1 assistance with your Smart
phone questions. At 2pm Joan West will lead a nonfiction book club discussion.
Thursday August 17th , 9-11:30 am, Bingo: A social game of chance, bingo, is growing in
popularity and is enjoyed by people of all ages. Besides being great recreation, playing bingo
can help older adults maintain hand-eye coordination, concentration, and short-term memory
skills.
Monday, August 21st , 1-3:30 pm: Line Dancing with Kathie Mosley.
Line dancing is great a great way for older adults to engage in healthy physical activity. It is a
perfect exercise for improving coordination and balance, increasing cardiovascular health and
brain memory. This dance fitness experience can be enjoyed by people of all movement
abilities; newcomers welcomed anytime. Kathie Mosley will be leading us in this quirky and fun
activity.
Thursday August 24 th , 9-11:30 am, Ted Talk, “The power of vulnerability.” We will
watch and then discuss Brené Brown's TED Talk “The power of vulnerability.” Brown studies
human connection -- our ability to empathize, belong, love. In a poignant, funny talk, she shares
a deep insight from her research, one that sent her on a personal quest to know herself as well
as to understand humanity.
Monday, August 28th , 1-3:30 pm: Choosing Among Medicare Plan Options:
Medicare’s open enrollment period is October 15th-December 7th each year. Whether you are
new to Medicare, reviewing Medicare plan options, or have questions on how to use your
Medicare, SHIIP (State Health Insurance Assistance Program) can help. Judy Parks, a local SHIIP
volunteer, will discuss how a free, unbiased SHIP consultation can help you choose the
Medicare or Medicare Advantage plan that is best suited to your situation.
Thursday August 31st , 9-11:30 am, Game Day: Join us to play Phase 10, a rummy-like
card game, or Scrabble, a board game where words are spelled out on tiles that interlock like in
a crossword puzzle. Space and tables available to play both games at once. Bring your
suggestions for future Games Days.
Events/Outings
Registration for these outings/events is requested to confirm your planned attendance. Most events will occur if there is a minimum of one registrant. For some events, there will be a maximum number of participants. When an admission fee is charged by an event vendor, each person will be responsible for their own admission fee.

Nature Walks:
Sunday August 6th at 2pm, Nature Walk at Noelridge Park: Meet at the Noelridge
flower beds (just off 4900 Council St and intersection with Collins Road) to enjoy the blooms
before taking the walking tail past the native prairie, pond, and orchard. The path is flat. This is
an enjoyable way to get in “our steps.”
Hometown Tourist:
Sunday August 20th at 1pm: Hometown Tourist outing to Cedar Rapids Museum
of Art (FREE summer admission). Overalls: Grant Wood’s Depiction of Denim is the
current temporary exhibit until August 27th . Jeans are the ubiquitous American garment. Its
history documents both the good and bad in American society and reveals a great deal about
American culture. Grant Wood is well-known for appearing in his working uniform, overalls.
They were not only a great working outfit but also referenced his youth on a farm.
