Updated: Nov 20, 2023

NOTE: Thursday time change beginning in November. Both Monday and

Thursday programs will now be held 1:00-3:30 pm.

Thursday, November 2nd, 1-3:30 pm, Bingo. A social game of chance, bingo, is growing

in popularity and is enjoyed by people of all ages. Besides being great recreation, playing bingo

can help older adults maintain hand-eye coordination, concentration, and short-term memory

skills.

Monday, November 6th, 1-3:30 pm, “Don’t Leave Your Family at Risk” by Scott

Shoemaker, an experienced estate planning attorney. He will address why you need an estate

plan (a will, trust, or other documents), even if you are not rich, and how it may be even more

important for families of modest means. He will also inform you about POLST medical orders

that can give individuals more control over their own care during a serious illness.

Thursday, November 9th, 1-3:30 pm, Reminiscence. Reminiscence is a natural process

that can help us find meaning in memories.  Telling or writing life legacy histories allows us to

look at factors affecting development which influence who we are.  Guidelines for reflecting,

sharing, and writing will be presented.

Monday, November 13th, 1-3:30 pm, “Searching for Buxton” Discussion led by Tom

Moore. We will watch the PBS documentary “Searching for Buxton” together.  “Utopia” is how

a majority of early 1900s Buxton residents referred to their Iowa community.  Buxton was an

oasis for racial harmony in an era where segregation was common practice.  A discussion led by

Tom Moore, a founder of the African American Museum, will follow.

Thursday, November 16th, 1-3:30 pm, Handling the Holidays. For those who have

experienced the loss of a loved one, the holiday season can be an especially difficult time. Amy

Hart, Licensed Funeral Director and Certified Celebrant with Murdoch Funeral Homes and

Cremation Service, will lead a presentation about honoring losses and expressing grief. Learn

about meaningful ways to incorporate your loved one into holiday traditions, helpful tips on

caring for yourself or a grieving friend, and information about continuing grief care resources in

our community.

Monday, November 20th, 1-3:30 pm, What'cha Reading? Come share what you have

read recently. It doesn't matter what you like to read or how much you read, just that you read

and like talking with others about books. Share a favorite book and get tips for a great next

read.

Thursday, November 23rd, Building Closed. HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!

Monday, November 27th: This Coffee & Chat has been canceled.

iconic, this 1959 Hitchcock film laid the groundwork for countless action thrillers to follow. The
