Sunday, October 8th, 2pm, Nature Walk @ Prairiewoods: Let’s enjoy an outing to explore
nature’s seasonal changes. Bonus, our path will be marked by a timeline of our universe
beginning with the “Big Bang.” Come away with an appreciation of the evolution of our
wondrous universe, our world, and the seasons of life. The wood mulched path is easily walkable, being mostly flat, and the pace will be unhurried for an enjoyable way to get in “our steps” and the healing power of nature.
Wednesday, October 18th, Kalona Day Trip and Amish Dinner, Departing from the Sams
lot on Blairsferry at 9am: Join this Fall outing to Kalona to enjoy a homemade farmhouse
Amish dinner. After dinner discover Kalona shops and Amish historic sites.
Van transportation and dinner: $65 prepaid.
Deadline, Registration and Prepay: Thursday, 10/12. May call Life Enrichment Center (319-640-
5357) to reserve a spot. Minimum 10 and maximum 11 reservations.

Monday, October 2nd 1-3:30, “Time to Ship a Steer” by author Bill Mueller: When you have
eleven kids and there is a bill to pay, it is “Time to Ship a Steer.” This fun look at growing up on
a family farm will bring back memories for those of us with a farm background and will make all
of us laugh. Bill is passionate about sharing tips to help others with ideas on how to save their
family memories.
Thursday October 5th, 9-11:30 am, Bingo: A social game of chance, bingo, is growing in
popularity and is enjoyed by people of all ages. Besides being great recreation, playing bingo
can help older adults maintain hand-eye coordination, concentration, and short-term memory
skills.
Monday, October 9th, 1-3:30 pm, Tech Advice: Meredith Crawford, Cedar Rapids Librarian, will
discuss using Zoom, a communication platform that allows users to remotely connect to a video
or audio meeting, and how to stream movies using your library card. Bring your tech device
(phone, tablet, etc.) for 1-1 assistance following the presentation. Also get a library card if you
don’t already have one.
Thursday October 10th, 9-11:30 am, Home & Personal Safety: Learn the top 10 tips for staying
safe wherever you are.
Monday, October 16th, 1-3:30 pm, Line Dancing with Kathie Mosley: Line dancing is great a great way for older adults to engage in healthy physical activity. It is a perfect exercise for improving coordination and balance, increasing cardiovascular health and brain memory. This dance fitness experience can be enjoyed by people of all movement abilities; newcomers welcomed anytime. Kathie Mosley will be leading us in this quirky and fun activity.
Thursday October 19th, 9-11:30 am, Cleanse your Mind: Your mind can become cluttered with
overthinking and stress. Cleanse your mind by doing a routine brain blitz. This will make more
space for positive thoughts, mindful activities and friendships that help you grow.
Monday, October 23rd, 1-3:30 pm, Game Day: Join us to play Phase 10, a rummy-like card
game, or Scrabble, a board game where words are spelled out on tiles that interlock like in a
crossword puzzle, or Clue. (Clue, The Musical is coming to Theater Cedar Rapids in October.)
Space and tables available to play multiple games at once. Bring your suggestions for future
Games Days.
Thursday October 26th, 9-11:30 am, Useful Gadgets for Everyday Living: Inexpensive items for
you and your home that can make a make a difference for everyday living will be shared.
Consider items you might want to add to your ‘wish list’ or gift yourself this upcoming holiday
season.
Monday, October 30th, 1-3:30 pm, Wisdom of the Crowd. Organizations and groups are
increasingly using crowd sourcing to spark innovation or obtain valuable knowledge
through the Wisdom of the Crowd. Let’s crowd source the Wisdom of the group for creating
an age-friendly community for living our best lives.
