Coffee and Chats, Events, & Outings

Below are the event descriptions for upcoming Coffee & Chat programs and Outings/events listed towards the bottom.


Monday, September 4th, Labor Day: Building closed for Federal Holiday.


Thursday September 7th, 9-11:30 am, Clean Eating: Sandy Bruns will discuss ways to

declutter and make natural cleaning products. Barb Heenan, Norwex Consultant, will share her

personal experience using clean environment practices.


Monday, September 11th, 1-3:30 pm, Tech Advice: Meredith Crawford, Cedar Rapids

Librarian, will discuss Social Media Platforms (Craig’s List, Facebook Marketplace, Pinterest,

Google Shopping, etc.) for selling and/or buying. Bring your tech device (phone, tablet, etc.) for

1-1 assistance following the presentation.


Thursday September 14th, 9-11:30 am, Picnic & Outdoor Games: Come and help us

celebrate our one-year anniversary. Hot dogs/buns and Cake with ice cream will be

provided. May bring a food item to share and a lawn chair if you have one. Free; please RSVP

to 319-640-5357; attendance count needed for food planning.


Monday, September 18th, 1-3:30 pm, Line Dancing with Kathie Mosley:

Line dancing is great a great way for older adults to engage in healthy physical activity. It is a

perfect exercise for improving coordination and balance, increasing cardiovascular health and

brain memory. This dance fitness experience can be enjoyed by people of all movement

abilities; newcomers welcomed anytime. Kathie Mosley will be leading us in this quirky and fun

activity.


Thursday September 21st, 9-11:30 am, Leisure Time Show & Tell: Come share your

favorite hobby or how you like to spend your free time. Bring pictures, examples of items you

make, or anything that supports your ‘Show & Tell’.

Monday, September 25th, 1-3:30 pm, Game Day: Join us to play Phase 10, a rummylike

card game, or Scrabble, a board game where words are spelled out on tiles that interlock

like in a crossword puzzle, or Clue. (Clue, The Musical is coming to Theater Cedar Rapids in

October.) Space and tables available to play multiple games at once. Bring your suggestions for

future Games Days.


Thursday September 28th, 9-11:30 am, European Travels: LEC board member Barbara

Berns will share her European Travels through the Netherlands (Amsterdam), France

(Strasbourg, Colmar, Provence), Western Germany, Czech Republic (Prague, Cesky Krumlof),

and Italy (Florence, Cinque Terre, Pisa)


Events/Outings


Registration for these outings/events is requested to confirm your planned attendance. Most events will occur if there is a minimum of one registrant. For some events, there will be a maximum number of participants. When an admission fee is charged by an event vendor, each person will be responsible for their own admission fee.


To register, respond on the Facebook Group “Cedar Rapids 55 Plus” or by leaving a voicemail message at #319-640-5357. For inclement weather check the Facebook group or call to confirm the event before heading out.


Sunday September 10th 2pm, Nature Walk at Prairie Park Fishery: The 1.7-mile

hard surface trail loops around the 65-acre lake offering walkers excellent views and

opportunities for bird watchers while getting in our steps. Prairie Park Fishery is at 2125 Otis Rd

SE, Cedar Rapids. For one route, from Mt Vernon Rd SE, turn south onto Memorial Drive. At

the end of the road (1.3 mile) turn right onto Otis Road. Proceed 0.2 miles, the entrance to the

fishery is a Y intersection with Otis Road.


Sunday September 24th 2pm, Hometown Tourist, Downtown Cedar Rapids Art

Tour: Join us to take a walking tour of the 21 Downtown Cedar Rapids murals and sculptures.

Included in this art tour are displayed on buildings, walls, and even skywalks in a one-mile

downtown loop. Meet just inside the front entrance of the downtown library. In event of

inclement weather, check the Facebook page Cedar Rapids 55 Plus or call LEC at 319-640-5357.


Future Outings: LEC is exploring possible van day trips, group outings to the theater (TCR for

Clue the Musical and/or Giving Tree Theater for a Murder Mystery Play) and future Hometown
